The R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl kicks off tonight at 7pm, from the Superdome in N’awlins. You can watch the Troy Trojans and the Owls of Rice battle it out on ESPN2.
This is Troy’s second bowl game in two years. It’s taken a while, but this is how you build a strong team. We’ll get there!
Birmingham boasts a busy book buying weekend the first of December.
On Decemeber 1st, Jimmy Carter will be in the ‘Ham. He’s making the rounds promoting his new book Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid.
You can only get yours signed if you have a ticket. Tickets can be bought at the Alabama Booksmith’s site or at the store. You buy one book, you get one line ticket. Makes sense.

The Birmingham Public Library is hosting an Authors Expo. At last count, nearly 40 area authors have plans to be there, selling and signing. That event kicks off at 10 a.m. on December 1st.
Whew! What a weekend!
Did anyone think Baxley even came close to holidng her own? No real fight tonight, huh? Oh well. It was fun watching the broadcast and keeping up with the live-bloggers as they re-capped, scored the debate and posted commentary.
Riley was the winner across the board on every site/blog I found. If you want to read more Wade on Birmingham and Politics in Alabama have much much more. They both have good stuff!
Jim Baggett of the Birmingham Library is leading an hour-long walking tour of some of downtown’s more notorious historic sites. It’s planned for October 27th at 5:45 pm. Their blog says it’ll cover “murders, mysteries and fallen women”.
How fun does that sound? The weather is perfect and the event is free, though you do need to call them and make a reservation.
Since Troy isn’t playing this weekend, you could head over to the Kentuck Art Festival. It’s supposed to be big this year and Pop Goes the City has highlighted some of the cool print artists that will be there.
Also, this weekend is the Birmingham Junior League’s “The Market” at the BJCC.
And if you’re one of the unfortunate ones unable to make Troy’s Homecoming, the weekend of November 4th, you can head down into Hoover for the Moss Rock Festival. It’s a new outdoor event near a great hike featured in 60 Hikes within 60 Miles: Birmingham.
The Chad Fisher Group (who is laying down tracks for a new album) is playing a free show tonight at the Bare Hands Gallery.
The downbeat is at 8 p.m.

There is a Tailgate Party scheduled for Saturday, September 30, 2006. The Troy University Alumni Association’s Birmingham Chapter is throwing the bash on the east side of Legion Field. You can park in Lots D & F, inside the gates of Legion Field, for easy access to the party. Look for the tent flying Troy banners and flags. We’re told some snacks and beverages will be provided.
The party kicks off at 4 p.m.
The Troy vs. UAB game kicks off at 6 p.m.
The State of Alabama has declared 2007 as the “Year of Alabama Art”.
Birmingham-based print artist Buchanan’s blog points to the State’s site posting artist listings, upcoming events and announcing plans for a new site.
