This is why the world has engineers… to make cool things like toast printers! The wall mounted contraption burns any image you want on each slice of bread with a 12 x 12 resolution.
That’s just too cool! Or is it hot? No word yet on price or availability. But we’ll keep you toasted posted.

I’m not sure this is covered in The Art of War, but imagine if all $20 million business deals were decided this way!
Lessons learned: scissors beats paper and always lead with scissors.

Starting this morning, Google Books is offering downloads of “entire works”, for free. For the past two years Google has been working with university liabraries from California, Michigan, England and a few in between. They have digitized anything and everything. Today, Google posted all of their copies of “public domain” books.

The Hatch Show Print shop has been on my “To Visit” list for years. You can trace 150 years of Southern music, politics and printing just by studying the posters and billcards hanging on the walls, of this legendary Nashville shop. They have done some amazing posters in the past. And their “preservation through production” philosophy is a neat strategy that’s paying off in spades.
The guy over at Be A Design group got to spend a whole week there running type and spinning old-world presses. Lots of cool pics and video. Too cool not to link to. He promises more Hatch related posts to follow.

These robo-risers don’t just provide you with more storage, they move and rock the crib to any one of four programmable rhythms.
The Lullabub Cot Rocker consists of four modules that are placed underneath the crib’s legs. It then rocks the crib, which mom and dad control via remote control. The Lullabub can simulate the motion of a mother’s womb, mother’s heartbeat, drive in a car or boat on water.
It’s sold-out. But the manufacturer promises more next month, retailing for $230.
Thanks for the link Steve, but this just seems weird.

and hoist your pipes! Birmingham’s own Skip Elliot (who owns/runs The Briary) is featured in the Spring 2006 issue of Pipes & Tobacco magazine.
We’ve been fans of Skip’s ever since we shopped with him in the old Brookwood Mall. But since moving The Briary to a renovated farm house (photos) in Homewood, the whole world is taking notice.
The article focuses on Skip’s own line of high-end pipes that he hand-carves. This man knows so much about briar, smoking, carving, lucite, tobacco, etc. his pipes must be near perfection.
You can buy P&T magazine from their site or from Skip’s store. Books-a-Million used to carry it, and still may, but I haven’t seen it there in a looooong time.
Way to go Skip!

The hottest spot in town this summer, is in fact, a hotspot!
The newest free wi-fi access point is downtown around Linn Park. Which is the hub for City Stages this year.
This free internet access area was developed by TechBirmingham and SouthernLinc. Pretty cool stuff and I heard it works well. We’ll see how it does once the word spreads. All you need is a laptop with a wireless card, then log-on to the connection “Linn Park”… and you’re suring the net!
For all the specifics check out the press release on the TechBirmingham site.
And for a map/list of all the wi-fi points in the are check out this site.

I found the coolest thing while browsing my new favorite website, dailycandy.com, … Spazzstick, a caffeinated lip balm. The caffeine is actually absorbed through your lips. All of the buzz w/ none of the yucky breath! AND, it softens your lips. It was invented by an Alaskan Police Officer (for obvious reasons). At only $2.99 a stick, it’ll be giving your local Starbucks a run for it’s money!

I’ll shave my face when Cullen gets here. But that’s ok, cause these guys have made sure there’s enough beard to go around…
From Germany’s fastest growing competition… the “Annual Beard Contest”!
This gefährte won the Freestyle category with his windmill whiskers.
While this guy’s twirled tufts of hair won him the over all first prize:
