Dog Days

August13

The grapevine passed along some good news today:

Scott’s Koneys has found a home on 3rd Ave South!

In two weeks, they will move to the street level floor of the Liberty National Insurance building. That is just half of a block further, from my work, than their present location. No withdrawal pangs here!

Intergalactic Mail

July26

The R2-D2 mailboxes have been out for a while (promoting the Star Wars collectible stamps), but I am seeing more of these around town and meant to post a picture a while back, for those who don’t have one in their hometown. This is the one on 1st Avenue North.

Art in the City

June18

qwds.jpgWe bought a few new prints at this year’s Magic City Art Connection. The three-day event was packed with a lot of new artists that hadn’t shown in Birmingham before.

We did miss the Indian Classical-Folk Fusion Dance performance (I can’t imagine what that was like), but the puppet show was pretty funny and the fried turkey legs were worth standing in line for 15 minutes. Here are a few pics from the weekend.

City Stages Tees & Tease

May29

It looks like we may have missed our chance to vote in a design for this year’s City Stages T-shirt. But it looks like there’s still time to vote in a “Runner Up” design. I’m not sure why we’re re-voting to pick a “runner up” or what a “runner up” wins… but it’s neat to see all the other submissions that didn’t make the cut.

This year City Stages is…

Balloon-Dah Day!

May21

We took the C to his first Do Dah Day. He loves dogs and there are doggies-a-plenty at Do Dah Day. Unfortunately, the nice folks from Benjamin Franklin Plumbing were handing out balloons.

And, well, C was so taken with his balloon, that he missed all of the dogs. Fortunately for him, I guess he was too distracted to notice the overwhelming smell of poo and the absence of bras on 85% of the ladies there.

Guess, T and I should’ve picked up one of those balloons.

Build It and They Will Come

April11
The new Apple store is opening here in town this Saturday at 10am. We’re meeting some friends over at the Summit at 9am to make sure we’re in line for the free swag. If you’re out that way come get in line with us. We’ll be the half-awake folks eating donuts and coffee.
Apple emailed out the announcements yesterday morning. If you want more info you can find it here on the Apple site.

Tunes Around Town

March15

I just heard that tonight’s Grey’s Anatomy will feature a song by Wild Sweet Orange, one of our favorite local B’ham bands. I’m not sure which song yet, but I’ll post it if I find out in time.

Also, the Chad Fisher Group took home a BAMA award the other night for best local jazz group! Congrats to them! Hopefully the new album will be out soon…

Neat Eats

February19

The ‘ham is gaining two new dining spots. Toast Bakery is locally owned and located on the corner of 2nd Avenue South and 24th Street. Which is within walking distance of where I work!

The other is out on 280 and is trying to light a fire under the resurgence of fondue. The Melting Pot is part of a national chain and is slated to open the first week of March out at Lee Branch.
