Never seen these shots of a shuttle launch before. The email they came with stated they were taken from the International Space Station, but now the consensus seems to be that they’re taken from a high altitude chase plane.
Either way… pretty cool!
That’s a “wow”! Did the email give the altitude?
No altitude was given.
As I type this the ISS is at 334.33 km (it can be tracked in real-time at http://spaceflight.nasa.gov/realdata/tracking/), so if they snapped the pic then that would be it.
I’m not sure how high chase planes can go.
