A Comprehensive Collection
In that last post, I mentioned Russell Wells’ work in collecting info on Eastwood Mall. Well, after following some links I discovered his site Birmingham Rewound.
It’s really cool. One of my favorite features is in the retail area. He shows the Pizitz store in Five Points West mall as it used to be and then links to pics from today. Is there anything as depressing as a rundown shopping center? If you read Wells’ comments there’s no question how he feels about things, either.
Wells is also starting to chronicle various logos around town and how they have (or haven’t) changed.
Kudos to Wells for putting together such a valuable resource!
As you know, I lived almost in walking distance of the Mall in the late 60’s. What a place it was! I remember buying a sewing machine from the Singer store and taking lessons there. Years later a repair man told me to keep my old singer head because it was the last all steel machine they made and it will be a valuable antique. I wonder. This is a great site. Thanks for the memories.
Bring back Buckworth!
Here’s another interesting sight on Eastwood where folks have put in memories from WAY back….
Thanks for the pics of Eastwoood!
