Ho-hum twiddle your thumbs…
Still waiting…
Still waiting…
Year around, the old bottling facility Pepper Place is home to some neat shops. But starting tomorrow and every Saturday for the rest of the summer it’ll be home to one of the neatest events in the ‘ham. The Saturday Market at Pepper Place.
For seven years, it’s been a neat place to find lots of eats and treats. Plus there’s cooking demonstrations, live music, art, etc.
Early is the best time to go. It’s when the selection is best and the temperature is even better.
Cullen seems to be in no hurry to come out and play. B had her weekly appointment yesterday and there’s been no change. So we wait.
He does give B a solid shot to the ribs every so often, so we figure he’s packing up his stuff. Maybe it won’t be too much longer. I know B is ready to be comfortable again.
The ‘ham gets highlighted again!
Check page 66 of your new PAGES magazine. Birmingham’s own public library is featured as a “destination” for summer vacationers. It has us placed right along side some big places from New York to California.
There’s a little blurb about the collection but the majority of it talks about those incredible historical murals in the Lynn Henley Research Library.
‘Bout time the rest of the country picked up on what we already knew!
I found the coolest thing while browsing my new favorite website, dailycandy.com, … Spazzstick, a caffeinated lip balm. The caffeine is actually absorbed through your lips. All of the buzz w/ none of the yucky breath! AND, it softens your lips. It was invented by an Alaskan Police Officer (for obvious reasons). At only $2.99 a stick, it’ll be giving your local Starbucks a run for it’s money!
I’ll shave my face when Cullen gets here. But that’s ok, cause these guys have made sure there’s enough beard to go around…
From Germany’s fastest growing competition… the “Annual Beard Contest”!
This gefährte won the Freestyle category with his windmill whiskers.

While this guy’s twirled tufts of hair won him the over all first prize:

Last Thursday night, this summer’s “Movies by Moonlight” series kicked off with a showing of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.
All you need is a picnic blanket and a lawn chair to stake your claim on piece of Linn Park real estate for the evening. Make sure you get there in time to watch the 2-story tv screen inflate. Pretty cool. While trolling Flickr, the best pics I’ve seen yet are over on Acnatta’s Flickr stream.
It looked like a couple hundred people showed up and John’s City Diner even delievered dinner if you didn’t want to bring your own.
Not sure who’s catering the next movie, but I hope the weather is just as nice.
Here’s a rundown on upcoming movies:
June 22nd - Big Fish
July 20th - Drum Line
Aug 17th - Raising Arizona
Sept 21st - Napoleon Dynamite,
Oct 19th - Viewer’s Choice. VOTE all summer long, and register for door prizes.
Of course, I’m sure all this is subject to change (and rain).
If your calendar isn’t full yet… here’s something else for us Birminghamsters to do:
There’s a new ‘play house’ in town. The City Equity Theater is opening with David Mamet’s “American Buffalo”. All about robbery and coins! So it has to be cool.
It starts at 8pm on every Thursday-Sunday until June 4th. They ask for a $15 donation.
You may have seen actor Alan Gardner on local commercials. I interviewed his wife (back when I was in Alabaster) when the South City Theatre was just getting started.
Artwalk sponsors are in full swing. The event isn’t until September 8th, but there’s plenty going on now. We had fun at Artwalk last year and it’s fundrasiers. Even had our picture in the paper, with our friends.
This Friday a meet/greet/fundraiser is being held at the Starbucks at 5 points South.
The best part is the buy one/get one coupon for Surin West! Up to $10. But sushi is excluded. Oh well.
Adjustable hotsauce! One bottle… one sauce… 7 settings. Just twist the cap and pump the sauce at the desired level of hotness. The settings range from “slightly spicy to fiery”.
